The typical shelf life for products is one to two years, depending on the ingredients used and the type of blend. Beneficial compounds begin to lose their potency over periods of time, and a maximum potency date is included on the container label. Direct exposure to sunlight, excessive heat, or water can decrease the longevity of your salve, butter, or balm. Some melting is normal, and can occur in heat that exceeds room temperature, but the blend will harden again once in a cooler location. You can also refrigerate your blend to help it reharden. It is recommended that you keep your herbal  in cool, dry places when possible.
